Who We Are

At the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Program's Sea Turtle Hospital, we are responsible for rehabilitating sick and injured sea turtles so they can be released back to the wild. Sea turtle hospital water team volunteers have the critical job of maintaining the "life support system" for the turtles.

What We Do

Volunteers in this program make salt water and utilize the pump system to distribute the water to where it is needed in the facility. They check and maintain the salinity and temperature of the water. They maintain the filtering system and setup, operate, and remove temporary pumping systems. They clean filters and maintain the life support system to ensure the best possible water quality for the turtles. Work starts at 8 am and on busy days may end after 5 pm. These volunteer positions are physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand for long periods of time and the ability to lift at least 25 pounds. Minimum age 18 years.
