Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. Volunteers power us! As a volunteer, you can become involved in every aspect of our work. From landscaping to fundraising to cleaning to educating to surveying the beaches to preparing food for turtles, it's all a part of what we do. You can help - for the turtles!

Please note that volunteer opportunities vary depending on the time of year and the needs of the center.  

General Requirements to Volunteer at KBSTTRC

  • You must be at least 14 years old.

  • Several positions, including those involved in hands-on turtle care, require you to be at least 18 years old. There is no upper age limit for volunteering.

  • You must live within two hours of Surf City and Topsail Island, North Carolina,

  • You must make a time commitment of at least four months (Topsail Turtle Project) or one year (all other positions).

  • For certain volunteer positions, such as some of the Topsail Turtle Project positions and the Sea Turtle Hospital Teams and Water Teams, a commitment of one day per week and the same day per week is required.

  • You must agree to abide by all current and future organizational COVID policies, including mask-wearing while indoors.

  • You must attend a general orientation and tour guide training

  • You must agree to abide by the North Carolina Code of Conduct for the Sea Turtle Nest Monitoring and Protection Project, the Handbook for Sea Turtle Volunteers in North Carolina, the KBSTRRC Volunteer Handbook, the KBSTRRC SOP Manual, and any other applicable policies and protocols.
