Volunteer Team Members will serve as ambassadors for sea turtles during guided tours and within the community.
Responsibilities: Cut and weigh food for turtles, i.e., vegetables and various types of seafood. Clean tanks. Feed turtles. Hold/restrain turtles. Weigh turtles. Maintain water/life support system. Maintain accurate records, i.e., food chart, therapy pool, weekly weighing, and admission of injured turtles. Assist with medical care as needed. Kitchen duties, i.e., wash and fold laundry, wash and dry dishes. Clean restrooms, kitchen, hallways, and other accessible areas. Answer phone and take accurate messages, i.e., name, date, message, and return telephone number. Must participate in giving guided tours and other responsibilities associated withbeing open to the public. Adhere to all safety guidelines. Collect garbage and recycled items for disposal. Volunteer: Water Team VolunteerAs part of the Water Team and in working to maintain the "life support system" of pumps, filters, and salt water, you will be serving a critical role in helping our sea turtle patients get well! Openings available several days of the week. Responsibilities: Make salt water and utilize the pump system to distribute the water mixture to where it is needed in the facility. Check and maintain salinity and temperature of the salt water. Maintain the filtering system as needed, and setup, operate, and remove temporary pumping systems. Must develop a conceptual understanding of plumbing lines and able to operate plumbing valves. Plumbing system requires depressurization for cleaning and maintenance activities. Must be able to de-energize electrical equipment when needed. Able to remove and replace aquarium filters and filter lids. Able to use the garden hose or pressure washer to remove waste and debris.
