The Annual Christmas Market is held every December in conjunction with the Annual Flotilla. Held in beautiful Soundside Park the Market features unique & handmade gifts, food trucks & entertainment. Market opens at 12pm and ends at 6pm or later, food vendors remain open until 7pm. Be sure to stick around for the Annual Flotilla expected to arrive at 6pm. Come spend a few hours enjoying the sights and sounds of the season while raising money for the KBSTRRC!

This spring we are doing spring break programs for children on the beach at access #5 in Surf City.

Sea Turtle Rescue: Become a sea turtle stranding volunteer and learn how we do an intake of a sea turtle.

We will:

Program starts at 9:30am at beach access #5. Meet at the beach for 8:45am or at KBSTRRC at 8:30am to come in the van.

Sea tutle TEDS - Learn about the importance of "Turtle Excluder Device" and build your own model of one that could be used for sea turtles!

Sea Turtle Sculptures: Learn about the sea turtle species and build life-sized sea turtle sand "castles"

We will bring photos of each sea turtle species that can be found in NC, along with measuring tape, and sea turtle facts such as their height, width, weight, descriptions etc. 

We will give each group of children one turtle species and ask them to build a replica sea turtle by size and description ie. Leatherback should have the 5 ridges going up their backs.

Students will then introduce their sea turtle species given and compare the different turtle species sizes, etc.

Meet at Beach access #5 in Surf City at 9:00am. Classes are from 9:30am - 10:30am

Sea Turtle CSI - Become a sea turtle detective by completing a sea turtle "necropsy" and learning more about marine ecosystems and conservation.

Come assist in this fun, new activity.

Nest Quest: Become a "beach walker" - follow the sea turtle tracks, uncover hidden nests and learn about conservation.

Preparation:

- Create "sea turtle tracks" from the water to the "nest" and back.

- Dig up a sea turtle nest where they should have nested and place ping pong balls into the nest.During the activity:

- Walk from Access 5 to access 6 and/or 4 where they will look for tracks.

- find tracks. dig for nest. carefully move eggs to a safer location if necessary, dig new hole, etc. 

- put up nest protection site with stakes and flagging tape.

Meet at Beach acess 5 in surf city for 8:30am for prep or at KBSTRRC 8:00am if you want to come in the van.

Sea tutle EED's - Learn about the importance of Environmental enrichment devices and build your own idaea of one for the sea turtles.

This activity is a simple beach walk with others to help collect trash found on the beach. We may be working with Coastal Cleanup of Topsail on this.

But in the end- I'd like to seperate out the trash with the kids who participate and include this data into the international website.
