Program: Sea Turtle Hospital Team

Volunteer Team Members work closely with fellow and other team members. Volunteer Team Members report to the Team Leader. Volunteer Team Members will be responsible for the care and husbandry of sick and injured sea turtles. Volunteer Team Members will serve as ambassadors for sea turtles during guided tours and within the community.

Program: Medical Team

Positions Summary: Provide ongoing care for injured sea turtles.

Responsibilities:
Medical Team Lead
Trained and reports to the Executive Director.
Assist the Executive Director and the Veterinarian in all aspects of medical care.
Review and implement orders from the Veterinarian and Executive Director.
Lead and manage the Medical Team Members.
Provide consistent care for critical turtles.
Reconstitute medication.
Draw up medication.
Administer medication - SQ, IM.
Provide wound care and advanced wound care.
Assist with radiographs.
Assist with running blood diagnostics.
Maintain records.
Be available 24 hours on days scheduled.
Available to fill in other days as needed.
Uphold the center’s mission statement.
Communicate with Team Leaders and Team Members.

Medical Team Member
Assist the Medical Team Lead.
Targeted feeds as directed by medical team lead.
Baths/betadine of critical turtles as directed by Medical Team Lead.
Restraining turtles for meds.
Food prep for critical turtles, i.e., vegetables and various types of seafood.
Tank cleaning for critical turtles.
Assist with wound care and dressing.
Available for 24 hours on days scheduled.
Available to fill in other days as needed.
Uphold the center’s mission statement.

Qualifications:
Love of marine life especially sea turtles.
Good communication skills.
Willing to work long hours.
Enjoy working with people.
Flexibility with scheduling.

As part of the Water Team and in working to maintain the "life support system" of pumps, filters, and salt water, you will be serving a critical role in helping our sea turtle patients get well! Openings available several days of the week.

Responsibilities:

  Make salt water and utilize the pump system to distribute the water mixture to where it is needed in the facility.  Check and maintain salinity and temperature of the salt water. Maintain the filtering system as needed, and setup, operate, and remove temporary pumping systems.   Must develop a conceptual understanding of plumbing lines and able to operate plumbing valves.   Plumbing system requires depressurization for cleaning and maintenance activities.   Must be able to de-energize electrical equipment when needed.  Able to remove and replace aquarium filters and filter lids.   Able to use the garden hose or pressure washer to remove waste and debris.
